At Sherwood Observatory in Nottinghamshire, accessibility is at the heart of an exciting new transformation. As part of converting a disused Victorian reservoir into a state-of-the-art planetarium and science discovery centre, the team wanted to ensure every visitor could enjoy the experience without barriers.
That commitment to inclusion led to the installation of a fully compliant Changing Places toilet, designed, supplied, and installed by Multicare Medical.
The challenge
Sherwood Observatory’s goal was clear: to provide more than just a standard accessible toilet. They wanted a safe, dignified, and practical space for people with profound and multiple disabilities, ensuring families could stay, explore, and learn together without limitations.
The solution
Working alongside main contractor G F Tomlinson, Multicare handled every aspect of the project, from initial site survey and bespoke design to equipment installation and official registration.
The finished facility includes a H frame ceiling hoist, Ropox adult-size changing bench, StandardLine height-adjustable wash basin, DocM toilet, privacy screen, and a full range of ancillary items. Every detail was chosen with safety, comfort, and ease of use in mind.
Centre Manager Tony Booth summed it up best:
